Workshop Descriptions CareerTrack
workshops are job search training classes open to the public,
especially those who are seeking a career change or starting a new career.
The workshops are designed to develop "soft skills" needed to enhance
your opportunities of finding a job, finding a better job, and/or keeping a job. All
of the workshops will be offered at the Career Center unless notified
otherwise. Please see the above calendar for specific times of
workshops. Below, you will find a detailed description of the workshops
that may fit your needs. If you have suggestions for other workshops,
please offer them to the instructor(s) at the Career Center or share them with
any Workforce Investment Act partner in the Career Center. Skills
Identification - What are you good at? Define your life and
work skills at this workshop. Once you define these skills, you'll have
more of any opportunity to find the job/career in which you have been searching. Resume/Cover
Letter Writing - This workshop is designed to help you put your skills
on paper and become more organized in your job search. A very valuable
workshop which help put you out there for employers to see!! JobSearch/Labor
Market Information - Develop your skills to network with potential
employers and utilize labor market surveys in this workshop. You'll learn
how to gather valuable information relating to the job or career you are seeking
within any area of Tennessee or the United States. Interviewing
Skills - Develop skills necessary to make an impression on your
potential employer. This workshop should help you build the confidence you
need to approach employers. A "mock" interview will be done
during this workshop to help you get the practice you need to approach an
employer interview. Job
Placement/Retention - What do you do once you get the job? Are you
better off working? It's a jungle out there in the workplace! This
workshop will combine an exciting video with candid discussion about workplace
ethics and ways to progress in your career. Computer
Basics - Designed to teach the basics of computers, this workshop
touches on the various programs that are typically used in the workplace setting
- Microsoft Excel, Word, and other Windows programs. Participants in this
workshop will also learn the basics of computer technology such as the make-up
of a hard drive, parts of the computer, and more.
