CareerTrack Workshop Descriptions

CareerTrack workshops are job search training classes open to the public, especially those who are seeking a career change or starting a new career.  The workshops are designed to develop "soft skills" needed to enhance your opportunities of finding a job, finding a better job, and/or keeping a job.

All of the workshops will be offered at the Career Center unless notified otherwise.  Please see the above calendar for specific times of workshops.  Below, you will find a detailed description of the workshops that may fit your needs.  If you have suggestions for other workshops, please offer them to the instructor(s) at the Career Center or share them with any Workforce Investment Act partner in the Career Center.

Skills Identification -  What are you good at?  Define your life and work skills at this workshop.  Once you define these skills, you'll have more of any opportunity to find the job/career in which you have been searching.

Interviewing Skills - Develop skills necessary to make an impression on  your potential employer.  This workshop should help you build the confidence you need to approach employers.  A "mock" interview will be done during this workshop to help you get the practice you need to approach an employer interview.

Job Placement/Retention - What do you do once you get the job?  Are you better off working?  It's a jungle out there in the workplace!  This workshop will combine an exciting video with candid discussion about workplace ethics and ways to progress in your career.

Computer Basics -  Designed to teach the basics of computers, this workshop touches on the various programs that are typically used in the workplace setting - Microsoft Excel, Word, and other Windows programs.  Participants in this workshop will also learn the basics of computer technology such as the make-up of a hard drive, parts of the computer, and more.
